Zurich

Hallo aus Zurich

2 mins read

We are in Zurich, Switzerland! We reached the city earlier today. Zurich is much more complex and much more expensive than I expected. We checked into our lovely Zurich Airbnb in the suburb. It’s on the third floor of a low-rise apartment. We will share the space with the owner, a friendly Swiss lady who seems well-travelled.

All freshened up, we took the train back to the city to roam around and have dinner.

Being Asian, we settled for Thai food at Ban Song Thai. The Thai restaurant was decorated with Chinese paintings, and they also served sake. All were a bit too confusing; all were a lot too expensive. Thankfully the food was good, and the alcohol helped. Happy, full and poor, we returned to the Airbnb for an early night.

So far, a less-than-a-day impression of Zurich has been a lovely city, just not a place I’d want to return to. It looks way too similar to other European cities, just ━ much more ━ expensive.

I have been carrying small black moleskin with a European travel to-do list by the city inside my jacket pocket. Zurich’s list includes: Travelling via train and boat, visiting the main train station, the Old Town, Uetliberg, Fraumünster and Grossmunster church, Coffee at Cafe Schober, the oldest coffeehouse in Zurich, and Zeughauskeller beer hall.

Eating in Zurich list includes: cheese and meat fondue is a must at Swiss Chuchi at the heart of Niederdorfin, the old city at Raclette, Rosti, traditional Swiss breakfast and Zürcher Geschnetzeltes.

I am sure most of it is a rip-off of someone else’s travel checklist. Unfortunately, I don’t remember whose. Also, rereading it made me realize that it’s too many things to do within a few days. Oh well, I will just do what I can.
