I am in Yogyakarta with my cousins! We reached yesterday night.
Today I woke up a bit late, which was a rare thing to do during vacation. We had a delicious traditional Indonesian breakfast in the hotel.
I must have mentioned a few times here that I am an anti-chain hotel. It’s a soulless business establishment that exists solely due to its convenience and practicality of accommodation. I had to eat my word when I reached the Phoenix Yogyakarta hotel. In my defence, I didn’t know it was a part of a chain hotel called M Gallery when I booked it.
The Phoenix Yogyakarta Hotel is decorated impeccably with lots of attention to detail, even the tiny ones. It boosts the vintage theme with heavy Javanese cultural influence.
The service was A+, and the breakfast buffet and room service exceeded our expectations. I am impressed by how much the Phoenix Yogyakarta Hotel stay has enhanced our travel experience. If I ever come back here, this will be my Yogyakarta hotel of choice. Not only that, I have been looking into M Gallery boutique hotels in the Asia Pacific region. St Moritz in Queenstown seems suitable for our next trip to New Zealand.

I visited Kraton Yogyakarta and Taman Sari in the morning. Afterwards, we had a delicious Javanese-style chicken barbeque called Eyem Penggeng at the famous Warung Ibu Ageng. We also visited Candi Mendut in the afternoon and stopped by Kali Milk for some warm white milk, where I managed to sneak in a short journaling sesh while my cousins chatted.
In the evening, we roamed around Jalan Malioboro on foot before stopping for dinner at a roadside place called Angkirngan Lek Man. We finished the night by drinking Kopi Joss, the pipping hot charcoal coffee.
Tomorrow will be a jam-packed day before we leave for Jakarta the day after.
