With our second week in New Zealand unplanned, we decided to spend the new year at Wanaka, visit the famous Wanaka tree and maybe go to the music festival.
We ended up skipping the festival thing because we were lazy and old. So instead, we cooked a steak dinner and stayed in a gorgeous farmhouse with a bison as our neighbour, and of course, we visited the mystical tree.
Wanaka town has such a tranquil vibe. I truly loved the two short days we spent there.
When we went to meet the world-famous tree, it was so crowded. However, it worked in my favour because instead of letting the FOMO in me win by just taking a snap or two and moving on to the next best thing, I had to sit there and wait for the kids to finish playing with the Wanaka tree, which they treated like their best friend. I would have swum there and joined the fun if I were not afraid of the cold.
Wanaka tree does have its’ magic; I could feel it.
I wonder whether I would come again to see the tree. It would be great to see the tree again, but another drive from Queenstown to Wanaka, maybe not.
I will let this be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, like witnessing the sunrise in Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
Be like a tree, be like the Wanaka tree.
Back home, during meditation sessions, sometimes we are nudged to be like the tree, well more than that — Ever since I met it, I have imagined myself turning into the Wanaka tree.
The Wanaka tree is as magical as Sakura, a Japanese cherry blossom tree.
Interestingly, both are not the most photographed trees in the world. The honour goes to the lone Cyprus tree. Does this mean I shall embark on the journey to meet the lone tree next? But maybe I will get acquainted with Australian eucalyptus trees first.
