I have small and big things on my to-do list for this Japan trip, one of which is to try the iconic Japanese Starbucks Matcha Pudding.
Happy to report that I am typing this while sitting inside a beautiful Starbucks in Ueno, Tokyo, with an empty cup of Starbucks Matcha Pudding and another one waiting to be eaten. I got it for Fafa, who was sitting beside me with his drip coffee, but he didn’t want it. That’s perfectly fine – one more pudding for me.
We came to this Starbucks for a break after doing Hanami Cherry Blossoms sightseeing in Ueno Park. It might be a bit premature of me to say this, but this Ueno Starbucks could be my favourite Starbucks in Japan (and maybe in the world).
I love everything about it, from the wooden architecture to the well-thought decor and seating corners. The only thing I didn’t like was the flock of tourists (yeah, I know, it is like the kettle calling the pot black).
Is The Starbucks Matcha Pudding Worth The Hype?
This Starbucks Matcha Pudding was a limited edition pudding by Starbucks in Japan in time with the annual Sakura season. This is one of the times when I am buying into the hype because I don’t even like matcha that much, nor do I drink it regularly outside Japan.
If you ask me, without the whole hype, would I like it? Well, the pudding is cold and light and came with a super cute cup. The matcha taste was strong but not unpleasant, even for someone who doesn’t associate matcha with dessert like myself.
Okay, guys, I have to wrap this up quickly as I have to finish the other cup of room-temperature Starbucks Matcha Pudding and move on to the next place in our Japan itinerary.
