Visiting Taipei Taiwan The Cultural Hub and Heart Of Asia

Taipei City

We touched down at Taoyuan International Airport at dawn and took an hour bus journey to the Taipei City Station. Observing the city view in the early morning, I could see resemblances between the city and Hong Kong, but Taipei looks a bit dated compared to Hong Kong. As if the city stopped growing after some time.

We reached our hotel, put our luggage, freshened up and headed out to explore the hotel’s neighbourhood. After some time, we visited Ximending, the famous and busiest shopping district in Taipei and ended up spending the whole day there.

Greetings from Taipei, the capital and cultural centre of Taiwan. It is also well known for its lively night markets and busy shopping districts.

It is only 10 PM, but my Amma is already sleeping, fully clothed with an extra jacket. Unfortunately, the Taipei weather in January is too cold for her. So I sneaked out to the hotel lobby to update the blog and share my first day in Taipei’s happenings with you.

Taiwan The Heart of Asia

Visiting Taipei Taiwan The Cultural Hub and Heart Of Asia

When I told a friend that we were going to Taiwan, she asked why Taiwan. Well, why not?

I have always been fascinated with Eastern Asia and its’ culture. Since I am keeping my leave days for Korea next year, Taiwan felt like the best choice for a short mother-daughter annual trip this year. It’s close by, the birthplace of bubble tea and surrounded by beautiful nature. Also, lately, I have read so many exciting things about Taipei’s night markets and street food that I had to experience.

After hours and hours of convincing and begging, my plane-fearing-cost-calculating-comfort-zone-loving mother finally agreed. I quickly processed our visas and booked the hotel and some tours. So, two weeks later, here we are in the heart of Asia.

I recently realized that even though it has been some time since I started to travel, I have never taken Amma anywhere. You know, just the two of us. So it’s a big deal.
