Ciao da Roma! Rome is the last leg of my European trip.
We reached the Eternal City from Venice yesterday evening. Today, aside from having lunch at a Chinese restaurant after I tearily confided to my cousin that I could not go another day without eating rice, I have done all the tourist cliches in Rome. From sitting down on Spanish Steps, having a cup of Caffè at the Piazza di Spagna, tossing a coin to Trevi Fountain, a bucket list item, with a tweaked wish (to come back to Italy and Europe but not necessarily Rome), witnessing a few passing Vespas, walking around Colosseum and having a gelato afterwards ━ soaking up Italian culture as much as we could in one day.
After we were both satisfied with the number of photos taken to prove we were having a grand time in Rome, we returned to the hotel to nap. Navigating Rome’s cobblestones with heels was arduous, and our feet screamed for a bit of R+R. Also, after seeing how fashionable the Romans were, especially the ladies, we felt the strong urge to change to the best options we could find inside our luggage, which was not an upgrade for me.
(note to self: pack better clothes when travelling! It matters! Also, wear more comfortable shoes!! It matters more!!!)
In the evening, we headed back to town for some wine and dined at a promising trattoria. It was semi-packed with Italians and emitting coziness thanks to the abundance of street lights. Unfortunately, the pasta was bland and, as usual, too expensive. I am so glad that I had the overpriced fried rice from the Chinese restaurant for lunch; otherwise, I am not sure I could take it.
Anyway, tomorrow is a brand-new Italian day, and I’m taking a full-day trip to the famous Vatican City. Do they eat rice in the Vatican? I do hope so!
