Quarantine Flight Meal

Pre Quarantine Flight Meal And Post Thoughts

3 mins read

I’m on my way to Jakarta! Finally, I’m heading back home after 700 days. Can you believe it? I’ve never been away from my parents for this long! But here I am, on my way home.

It would be a blatant lie to say the process has been smooth. I haven’t had a chance to take a proper breath for weeks. The last time was Friday when my manager sent a “good to go” email, approving my WFH from Jakarta. “Good to go” matters, but after that, everything changed. Everything went from “good to go” to dealing with a Covid test only valid two days before travel, with no labs accepting bookings or guaranteeing results, and much more.

Anyway, amidst all the drama and dousing myself in sanitiser, I managed to keep my sanity. Now, I’m on the flight. I’m almost there—almost in Jakarta—and about to be locked in a hotel room for a week of quarantine.

But for now, let’s talk about my pre-quarantine flight meals.

Quarantine Flight Meal

It all started when the flight attendant asked if I’d chosen the seafood menu. I hadn’t, as I didn’t have the time to focus on hotel bookings and had already made the costly mistake of booking the wrong date. She asked if someone else had booked my ticket for me, which I found a bit odd. I told her it was fine, and I’d skip the meal since I wasn’t that hungry. But 15 minutes later, she came back with a tray in hand.

Well, I wasn’t going to say no to a meal offered! So, I took it, opened it, and was greeted by an appetizing-looking fish. It was small enough for me to finish, even though I wasn’t hungry.

While eating, a few thoughts crossed my mind.

Firstly, seafood is always a safe choice for me. Even if it’s not the best, I’d rather eat seafood than other meat on a flight.

Secondly, I realized that setting a specific dietary requirement before flying means getting my food earlier than everyone else, which is great because I can eat and sleep sooner. That’s a crucial thing on a long flight.

Lastly, I couldn’t help but notice that Singapore Airlines’ food quality has really taken a dive over the past few years.
