Project Rice for Mental Health

2 mins read

Last week, during my break from work to reset and recharge, I mulled over some ideas to write on this blog ━ primarily about the “Blog Project” my therapist suggested I take on.

I wanted to write about the things that I love, interest me, bring me joy and, more importantly, something I can always do despite the uncertainty of Covid and lockdown.

I agreed with him about having a deadline, and I wanted an end date and total number so that it doesn’t go on until I lose interest in it and stop it halfway.

And I could only think of one thing that overlaps all those four criteria – and it’s easy guess – food! Speficailly rice.

My obsession with rice is well-known among my loved ones but only sporadically documented on this blog (Chicken Rice The Ultimate Comfort Food And Hangover Cure // Rijsttafel-ing Indonesian Food in Amsterdam // Exploring Singapore Food Culture One Cuisine At A Time // Experience Indonesia Culture By Eating In Bali Warung // Makan A Celebration of Indonesian Cuisine in Melbourne) and for some reason, my well-rested brain thinks it will be a fun mini project for the blog. Project Rice. Dun…dun…

The plan is pretty simple: I will write about different types of rice from different cultures in different corners of the world and publish it here until the end of the year before either calling it quits or continuing it until next year.

My therapist also suggested being clear about the goal of the project. I can only see myself benefiting from this – by eating more rice in the name of research, but maybe my well-being is good enough for a purpose – anything I can to survive this horrific pandemic.

Wish me, and the many plates of rice I will be eating, luck!
