It wasn’t my first visit to the Poop Cafe. I came here for the first time with Yin on my first Korean trip back in 2014. It wasn’t even my first Poop-themed cafe – I drank from a toilet bowl cup in a cafe in Batam, Indonesia. I am not sure what it says about me when I not only share this poopy information but actually recommend you to visit the Poop Cafe in Ssamzigil, Insadong, Seoul.
Wait, don’t close this tab. Hear me out!
KK’s Reasons To Visit Poop Cafe in Ssamzigil:
Firstly, the Poop Cafe is located on the Ssamzigil building rooftop. As you know, going to Ssamzigil in Insadong is a must when you come to Seoul. Since you already have done four floors worth of spiral walking in Ssamzigil, why not take a short break at the rooftop?
Secondly, the Poop Cafe is surrounded by wall-to-ceiling windows, giving an unrestricted view of Ssamzigil and Insadong – depending on which side you are seated on.
If you are not into window-watching, look inside the cafe. There is a lot of poop paraphernalia. These things make unusual props and backdrops for your Instagram-worthy pictures. So stand near or grab some and get clicking.
Now, if you are the introverted type, the cafe also has cubicle-like seating areas in the corner. It fits one person or a couple if they are happy to squeeze into the tiny space. Here you can busy yourself with your own thing, like reading or playing games. The last time I was here, I wrote a quick reflection on my Korea trip while waiting for Fafa to collect our food orders.
Or, if your creativity is more on the destructive, you are welcome to vandalise these cubicles with your graffiti and words. You can even read the writings. It could be a poopy way of picking up a few words in foreign languages. FYI, “sangat goblok” in the above picture means very dumb in Bahasa.
Poop-licious
But if everything I mentioned above hasn’t convinced you to visit the Poop Cafe, come for the food. I am here to tell you that the sweet potato latte I had here is the best I had in my life. And judging by the never-ending que to get chocolate-flavoured poop pancakes (there is a sentence I thought I would never say) right in front of the cafe, I am not the only one that thinks this Poop Cafe is worth visiting.
Poop Cafe Ssamzigil: 44, Insadong-gil, Jongno-gu 4th floor of Ssamzigil mall, Seoul, South Korea. Opening hours: 10.30AM-9PM.
