We went to Maya Beach in the afternoon today, our last day on Phi Phi Island. Maya Beach is where “The Beach” movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was shot.
To get there, you can either book a long-tail boat for around 250 baht per person or, if you plan to do some diving and snorkelling as well, better yet, take a one or half-day package, and you’ll get to cover a few charming beaches surrounding Phi Phi. We were too lazy to snorkel, so we opted only for Maya Beach with a long-tail boat for 250 baht per person. It’s a wonderful place where you can see a school of fish swimming beside you, white sand, clear water, and gorgeous, happy tourists and chilled-out locals.
We took some pictures and returned to the Phi Phi Island pier, where we had lunch and coffee at Cuppa Latte. Cuppa Latte used to be a bookstore; there were fiction and non-fiction bookshelves where they now stack food and beverages. Classic touch.
Later, we spent our night drinking, watching a fire show, and smoking shisha at Carlito’s Beach Bar. The shisha was mind-blowing. We got a happy buzz very fast and danced our night away. Three dishes and countless drinks later, walking and singing, we took the boat back to our resort.
Tomorrow, our plan is to pack, check out from the Phi Phi Island resort and eat the same Thai pancakes we love for lunch before the ferry back to Phuket and then fly to Singapore. Another big, busy, fun day ahead.
