I had Nasi Kuning Manado on Air Asia Singapore to Jakarta today. It was a short plane ride, less than two hours away, for which I am always thankful. I would be in Jakarta for almost a week – celebrating Appa’s 60th birthday.
I went to the airport straight from office work. It’s an indescribable good feeling to drag a carry-on from the office, wait for the taxi downstairs and leave Singapore for the weekend. I feel so chi-chi.
Knowing it would be my usual dinner time while being up in the air, somewhere between Singapore and Java island, I pre-booked the meal and this time, I chose Manado Nasi Kuning. Though I have had Nasi Kuning before, usually in the form of Nasi Tumpeng, I had never eaten the Manado version of Nasi Kuning.
The Manado Nasi Kuning served with no frills, as it was a budget airline. But at least it was served hot and with great hospitality, something I always appreciate about Air Asia.
Nasi Kuning Manado, a famous East Indonesian dish, contains yellow rice, chicken, shallots, red chilli, and skipjack tuna. I was surprised that it tasted so good, even though it didn’t look as much. I finished the whole meal within minutes and spent the rest of the flight reading.
A few Singapore dollars were well spent!
I have been pre-booking my Air Asia meals many times, but this was the best I have eaten to date. I need to remember what meal I booked for my flight back to Singapore. Meanwhile, in between, I will have a plethora of good Indonesian food.
