I just came back from my Japan trip. Though I always say this whenever I visit a new country, I really REALLY want to move to Japan. In a short span of a week, I have fallen in love with Japan. I want to learn more about Japanese culture, eat more Japanese food, befriend the locals and explore all of the 47 prefectures of Japan.
As I was regaling my colleagues with stories about the trip over sushi, one of them started discussing romanticizing the places we visit post-travel. It’s not too different from when our minds deceive us into thinking our broken relationships were once perfect.
That is an interesting point. And it got me thinking about whether my Japan trip was indeed as amazing as I made it to be. Surely, there were times when things weren’t ideal.
The good, the bad and the ugly of my Japan trip
My overall Japan trip indeed had been good. From Ginza to Akihabara, there are many highlights that I will break into bite-sized blog posts soon.
I regret the most that I wasn’t able to see the iconic tradition of the Tsujiki market tuna auction. According to the news, the market will be relocated to another area by the end of 2016. I am not sure I will visit Japan again before then. As someone who is obsessed with local markets, especially the fish market, I am bummed out about it.
There was a typhoon warning on our first night in Tokyo, but all was well the next morning. Phew!
Other than that, I also didn’t get to visit Disney World, didn’t really like Danjon Garan, and didn’t eat enough sushi or Onigiri. But saying all these, if there is something I could change about my Japan trip, it would be to make it longer, like one to two years longer, but for now, Sayonara Japan!
