Milton Market was the first stop of our Sunday morning in Brisbane. Located in the inner west of the city, it’s one of the highest-rated markets on Google, so we went there to find out why. The weather that day was glorious. I also love the open and pop-up concept of the market.
Eating in Milton Market
For a small-scale pop-up farmer market (the smallest one I have been to in Australia), the food variety in Milton Market surprised me. There were plenty of coffee stalls and an iced tea and bubble tea stall for beverage choices. More than a few home-cooked food stalls, some of them sold food I had never seen before, such as Hungarian bread and Chinese pan.
While exploring, I noticed a humble Indonesian food stall. It wasn’t even 11 AM yet, but that was it. I told my friend we needed a break because I wanted to eat a proper Indonesian meal (rice, chicken and chill – the whole shebang) for breakfast. So we did. We sat in the courtyard where I ate while she sipped coffee while enjoying a woman singing beautifully on that Sunday morning.
Shopping in Milton Market
I contemplated getting condiments from an uber-funky-looking seller and stall, some rare spices and a pot for my plants back home. I was also intrigued by a crystal shop, a Kondi bag from Kenya and some handmade products. But since I only brought a backpack, I kept the shopping list for next time.
In the end, we each ended up buying a few pairs of beautiful earrings here. It started with me getting a pair of whale stud earrings as a reminder of the time I went to whale watching in Queensland.
We agreed that it’s cheaper than Melbourne and Sydney, where going to Sunday farmer’s markets has been gentrified by hipster culture. My friend asked me to mention the blog she also liked Milton Market has music, activities and many different kinds of food.
As much as I love the Prahran market near where I live in Melbourne, strolling around Milton Market would fit into my idea of a perfect Sunday morning. If you are in the Brissy (one of Brisbane’s nicknames, ━ the other one is Brisvegas), even for a weekend, head to Milton Market. I promise you will find something you love to get or at least eat from there.
