The Millenial Shibuya stay was a comprise that I made with Fafa. I wanted to stay in a capsule hotel in Japan while he was claustrophobic.
Tired after a whole day’s travel ordeal from Osaka, which included waiting for the train in the train station for 5 hours (it was New Year, did we not buy our train tickets earlier), taking the train of 3 hours bullet train to Tokyo and dragging our luggage that was filled with so many things from the cities we visited before (my rationale about packing flew out of the window when it comes to Japan. Everything was Kawaii and needed to go home with me), we were ready to crash.
We finally found the place, went up to level 3, and were greeted by a bar and many party-ready people: glitzy dresses, red lipsticks, hipster hats and suspenders.
The Millennial Shibuya
I turned to Fafa and asked whether we were in the right place. Yes, we were, answered the guy on the counter. It was the common area. Everyone was getting ready to go to various New Year’s Eve parties.
Smart Pods
Our room was on the fifth floor. We booked the mix, which I thought meant a larger space. But apparently, we got two rooms, side by side. One room was big enough for us to sleep in; the other was utilized for our fat luggage storage.
The rooms In The Millennial Shibuya are called Smart Pods. It’s a high-tech room where you can control almost everything with the iPod given when you check it.
Initially, I was a bit worried about Fafa feeling claustrophobic, especially after the hell of the situation I put him through at Asakusa Book and Bed. But the dude was happily playing with the iPod. So boys will be boys, eh?
The bathroom is communal and unisex. It’s also high-tech, well stocked and clean.
Happy New Year, 2019
Contrary to the original plan to crash immediately after we reached The Millenial Shibuya, we went out for dinner; after all, we were in Shibuya, Japan, and it was New Year’s Eve.
We returned a hot minute after—no thanks to the winter weather. We then changed to Millennial Shibuya PJs (I wanted to steal) and chilled at level 3. We drank, browsed the extensive collection of film photography books (Japan film camera culture is enormous), made small conversations and went back up by 11 PM to sleep side by side while browsing the phone. It was our marriage life in a nutshell.
We were up early the next day, sat at the communal breakfast table, and started guessing who among the guests scored last night.
Happy 2019! May your 2019 be as chill as ours.
