International Pot Luck in Melbourne Night Noodle Market

If there is one event In Melbourne that I haven’t missed since I moved here more than three years ago, it’s the Melbourne Night Noodle Market.

I have been here with Fafa, with Amma, and even just by myself. Today, marking the fourth year I visited the night market, I came with my colleague, Pri. It was a beautiful day to be out and about. Since it’s located pretty close to our office, we decided to check it out.

The first thing we tried was Korean food because she wanted something salty. It tasted good, but not $15 good. That’s expected; Melbourne Night Noodle Market is notorious for its overpriced food. That’s the biggest complaint that I and my friends got.

It’s here I have eaten sour mango in Thai dessert, tasteless Kway Teow, and too expensive bun. Over the years,, I want to say the food got better, but the truth is, I don’t know whether my standard is getting lower or it’s actually getting a bit better.

The highlight of this night market used to be the Sydney base Black Star Pastry’s Watermelon Cheesecake. But now, since they have opened a branch in Melbourne, they no longer open a stall there.

Melbourne Night Noodle Market Local Tips

Visit it on a good weather day. Go there early. And go with friends, so you can get in turns to buy food while the rest chill. Also, bring a water bottle.

I always miss Amma when I visit the noodle market. I miss having her sitting beside me, oozing disappointment at how expensive and bad the food here is compared to the ones in Asia. So my last tip is to expect to pay more and come for the experience, not the food.
