It took me a hot minute to get that my Australian friend was referring to McDonald’s when they said: “Maccas” (makkas). But it shouldn’t be a surprise since we all call McDonald’s differently in a different pocket of the world. My Filipino colleagues in Singapore called it “MacDo” (mak-do), while in Indonesia, we refer to it as “MecDi” (mek-di). I later learned that the Japanese call it “Makku” though I have yet to hear it myself.
