It took me a hot minute to get that my Australian friend was referring to McDonald’s when they said, “Maccas” (makkas). But it shouldn’t be a surprise since we all call McDonald’s differently in different pockets of the world. My Filipino colleagues in Singapore called it “MacDo” (mak-do), while in Indonesia, we call it Mekdi. I later learned that the Japanese call it “Makku”, though I have yet to hear it myself.
