If I could convince Fafa, which is a very long shot, I can see us retiring in Darwin. A small house, maybe even an apartment on Mindil Beach—one that overlooks a spectacular sunset every day—would I get bored of it? Maybe, but I’ll always appreciate the warm weather. Plus, I’d still be in Australia but close enough to Indonesia and the rest of the world. I’d be living in a rich land with an earthy culture. I would spend my days writing, reading, and birdwatching. I’d go swimming often in the many swimming holes and eat seafood regularly—maybe I’d even grow to like Barramundi…
