Fish Spa: The Fin-est Pedicure Experience

2 mins read

I experienced the fish spa today. By that, I mean I sat down and dipped my feet into an aquarium filled with small fishes that immediately nibbled the dead skin off my feet. It’s one of the things I had seen in Thailand and was curious about, but I was also unsure how painful, gross, annoying, and hygienic it would be, so I passed on it.

However, every time I saw it, my curiosity grew.

Today, when I saw the same thing at Kenko Reflexology Marina Bay Sands (I was there with my Amma, who was in the casino), I decided to try it. I had time to kill and thought that if Amma won, she could reimburse this under business costs (she won, paid for the fish spa, and took me to Gajali for crab dinner).

The fish didn’t come immediately when I put my feet down. I thought they would. Was it because I am brown, and they couldn’t see me immediately? But then they could be shy…

These thoughts grossed me out.

Eventually, some came, and then more came, tickling me sensation in the beginning, and once I overcame it, it had became more of a buzz. Occasionally, the tickle feeling would come back.

Twenty minutes later, I was done. I also got to tick off Fish Spa from my (curiosity) list.

I have read how the fish spa is supposed to be relaxing. Honestly, even when it didn’t really hurt, I wouldn’t categorize being nibbled by small fish as a relaxing experience, and I touch my heels – yes, it’s smoother, but my nail salon lady in Katong could do better with a new coat of nails for a lower price, I reckon.
