Emirates EK 405 Red Eye to Singapore

2 mins read

Hey, guys! I paid a $4.99 20-minute WiFi fee to tell you I am on Emirates‘ red-eye to Singapore. And when I say red-eye, this time, it truly is a red-eye.

The flight took off at 3:35 AM today, and we were served a full meal at 4:25 AM. I don’t know why. If Emirates wanted to adjust our body clocks to our destination, it would be 1:25 AM Singapore time. Alas, I shouldn’t be complaining because the meal Emirates served was delicious.

I got mutton curry (or beef? Fafa ordered it before waking me up) with tomato rice and a cut eggplant, which made me quickly conclude that eggplant is not, and never will be, appetizing plane food. Then there was a chicken salad with edamame and half-cooked rice (am I making this up??? I’ll recheck the picture tomorrow and update the post if needed) and a generous portion of mango pudding.

I also got a Kitkat, a cob, and an OAT 25 cookie, which I assumed was an oat-based cookie. I promptly put the cookie inside my bag, exclusively for emergencies, as no fun trips shouldn’t be started with oat anything.

While eating my rice, I can’t help but once again regret not packing my BonCabe (chilli flakes) or Sambal (Indonesian chilli sauce) in my carry-on.

I do this all the time; I’d pack it but take it out at the last minute, thinking I wouldn’t be able to have an authentic food experience in the destination if I kept my Indonesian chilli concoction as a palate crutch. But what I kept forgetting is I’d be eating on the flight to and from my destination, and I owe it to my pre-vacation excited and post-vacation blue self to have enhanced (read: spicy) meals when I am squeezed like a sardine in economy class inside a 200-ton metal bird.

Update: I’d happily change my airline loyalty for unlimited chilli oil on the air. Sichuan Air, you are on my radar!
