Our first official meal in Berlin was the Red Duck Curry from the highly-rated Cao Cao Restaurant, located just behind our hotel.
I insisted on trying this dish because Pepeth, my best friend and a refined foodie, highly recommended having duck in Berlin. When it comes to food, Pepeth’s recommendations are like gospel to me.
Also, for some reason, I initially thought duck curry would be a Thai dish, but it’s not—it’s from a Vietnamese restaurant – marking the second time I’ve had Vietnamese food as my first meal upon arriving in Berlin.
No complaints, though!
Cao Cao’s duck was exceptional. We also shared a spicy salad loaded with fresh prawns, and I paired the meal with a glass of plum wine. The service was excellent, too. We tipped €4.70, rounding the total to a €50 meal.
Berlin’s food scene might just be the redemption arc of the city for me.
