It’s my first night in Fiji. We reached Nadi only a few hours ago. My first impression of Fiji was that Fijian were very friendly, which reminded me of Bali. My second impression, after waiting in the immigration line for an hour, was that everything is done in a much slower phase in Fiji. Which also reminded me of Bali.
The taxi took thirty minutes to reach the Fiji Hilton Resort and cost us FJD30. We tipped the cab guy and promptly checked in. After a glass of drink and a shell necklace each as a welcome to Fiji gift, we were driven to our villa in the golf car-like car. Our room was located on the second floor of the villa. The room itself was spacious but dated.
Since it was already super late, we decided to have dinner in the resort compound, an Asian Fusion restaurant called Maravu.

We ordered Rice Balls (Jik’s favourite), Coconut flakes coated Prawn Tempura (my favourite), and seven spices tofu (not nice). We also got Indonesian nasi goreng – to prove my theory of us being Indonesian while travelling. Unfortunately, the Nasi Goreng lacked the usual kick. Thankfully, Fijian also ate bird eye chilli and gave us plenty (after confirming twice that we indeed asked for fresh-cut chilli). I have a feeling that we will be more than fine feasting on Fijian cuisine in the upcoming days.
The dinner cost us FJD 160, which seemed too expensive. I mean, yes, we ate by the beach, but not right by the beach with sand on our feet. Also, an extremely obnoxious table of tourists beside us made us wrap our dinner time sooner than I’d liked.
I am still unsure about the villa-style room far from the reception, but I’ll keep my judgement once I see everything in daylight.
Overall, it has been such a great day with Jik in Fiji. #FiJik.
It’s now past midnight, time to sleep. Ni sa moce friends!
