The Time I Questioned The Value of Travelling

1 min read

Before flying to Darwin, I began questioning my obsession with travelling. I was exhausted, sluggish, and felt the pressure to travel that particular week, doubting my self-imposed travel rules.

Around the same time, the media started to bombard me. Maybe not an outright bombardment, but specific articles questioning the value of travel caught my attention. I resonated with some of their thoughts.

This led me to start doubting my self-proclaimed addiction to travelling—so much so that I considered taking a sabbatical from it. Some travel bloggers I follow also seem to travel less frequently and obsessively than they used to, reinforcing my doubts.

Then, during my flight to Darwin, I read Mindful Traveller, and with all these thoughts—plus the cost, time off, discomfort, planning hassles, and opportunity cost—I began questioning the value of travel.

But today, on day two in Darwin, after doing some exploring, I couldn’t help but feel exhilarated and happy. I started recalling old memories, getting curious, and learning new things. I feel like my cup is full again, and I realise that I don’t get this feeling anywhere else except experiencing things, things outside my comfort zone. From travelling.
